ORMOC CITY, Leyte -- A retired government employee was charged with murder at the Biliran Provincial Prosecutor's Office for killing a mayor’s aide over jealousy, a police official confirmed Monday, May 15.
Kawayan, Biliran Police Chief Ian Salvador Po said Jessue Dingcong, 63, was charged with murder for killing Guillermo Cipriano, 54, over suspicion that the victim was having an affair with the former's 65-year-old wife, an employee of Culaba, Biliran local government.
Dingcong is a retired employee of the Department of Agrarian Reform. He voluntarily surrendered to the police right after hitting Cipriano on the head, abdomen and chest using a caliber 45 gun.
The incident happened in front of the mayor’s house in the town center of Kawayan early Saturday, May 13, said Po.
He said that according to Dingcong, Cipriano often stays in a hut in front of the mayor's house just as the suspect's wife would leave for work. This made Dingcong believe that Cipriano has an affair with his wife.
“This suspicion prompted him to commit the crime. The suspect was drunk when he murdered his wife’s alleged lover,” Po said.
The victim, who worked as the mayor’s personal aide, is a native of Culaba town, some 35 kilometers from Kawayan. The suspect is the mayor’s neighbor.
Initial investigation revealed that the motive in the killing is jealousy.
Dingcong is temporarily detained at the town police lock-up cell. (PNA)
