A TOTAL of 12 teams are vying for slots in the national finals as the Shakey's Girls' Volleyball League (SGVL) Southern Mindanao Leg Season 15 opened Thursday, May 4, at the 7th Floor of Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) Martin Hall at Emilio Jacinto Street.
SGVL Davao director Abet Bernan, in Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the NCCC Mall Davao B3 Family Room,
said defending champion ADDU High School will try to keep its crown against its counterpart ADDU Senior High, University of Immaculate Concepcion (UIC), Tagum City National High School (TCNHS), Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International School of Davao (PNJKISD), University of Mindanao (UM) Tagum, Davao City National High School (DCNHS), Holy Cross College of Sasa (HCCS), Jose Maria College (JMC), San Pedro College (SPC), Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School and Davao Chong Hua High School (DCHHS).
"It is the passion for volleyball and our advocacy to inspire and teach the younger generations to get into active sports," Bernan said.
The champion team, however, will represent Southern Mindanao to an all-expense paid trip for the upcoming nationals set in August this year.
Bernan added that this year's edition showcases a higher level of competition since it grew bigger to 12 teams from eight entries last year.
The championship match is on Sunday at the same venue.
