THE medal rich sport of Archery will get a boost in Cagayan de Oro city when the WestRidge Sports Park reintroduces the sport to the public in Carmen village on Saturday, May 6.
Cagayan de Oro’s top Archery coach Mario Pacturan will coach young athletes during the free Family Sports Day hosted by the city’s premier sports venue.
“It is time for the sport of Archery to be developed here,” said Pacturan, a teacher at the Misamis Oriental Comprehensive High School (MOCGHS).
He added that Northern Mindanao used to be a strong contender in the Palaro in Archery but unfortunately, the sport has been inactive here recently.
WestRidge Sports Park owner Eduardo Sytiongsa is trying to revive the sport by introducing it in his Sports Park property in Carmen village in front of the Country Village Hotel.
He has built an Archery range and will provide the bows and arrows.
Event organizers Engineer Ronald Ybañez and Ivan Caiña said that aside from Archery, kids and sports enthusiasts will also get free clinics in Frisbee, Football and Golf.
Ivan Guba and Sheena Jumuod will conduct the clinic for Frisbee, while AFC B License coach Lance Francisco for football, Joe Bernaldez and Archie “Ondoy” Mondilla will hold the golf clinic.
According Caiña, the one-day event is a project of the WestRdige management to allow families to learn sports this summer and at the same time to develop strong bonding among family members.
The Archery and Golf clinics are set from 8 to 5 p.m. while the Football and Frisbee clinic is at 2 to 5 p.m. Registration is at 7:30 a.m.
The event is sponsored by Globe, Milo, Nature’s Spring, PING, U.S. Kids Golf, SunStar Cagayan de Oro, SuperBalita and Pics and Prints.
