Violence greets mayor’s call for ‘gentle means’ as PDEA agents kill another drug suspect in the city.

THE Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Caraga and Northern Mindanao agents on Thursday killed another drug suspect in Cagayan de Oro, barely a day after Mayor Oscar Moreno beckoned better solutions than killing in addressing the menace of illegal drug trade in the locality.

Tagged as a high value target, a certain Jabbar Sangcopan bore multiple gunshot wounds on his body in a drug raid at Capisnon, Kauswagan, this city when the suspect allegedly tried to fight back.

"Kinalulungkot natin ang pangyayari pero nanlaban eh. Ini-avoid natin ang encounter pero bago tayo madisgrasya, dapat i-secure din safety at security ng operatiba," said PDEA-Caraga chief Gilbert Buenafe of Sangcopan who no longer reached the hospital alive.

Buenafe said Sangcopan was a leader of a drug syndicate operating in the Caraga region, particularly in Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur who had gone into hiding in the City of Golden Friendship.

"Almost a year din natin siyang minamanmanan bago naisakatuparan ang operation na ‘to," said Buenafe whose group was armed with an arrest warrant when they swooped down on Sangcopan’s whereabouts.

Authorities also raided Sangcopan’s other house in Opol, Misamis Oriental that resulted to the arrest of his wife.

"Dalawang bahay ang target ng operation halos mga mansyon sa laki at doon sa Opol target natin nahuli ang kanyang asawa," Buenafe said.

Last March 11, suspected drug pusher Khalid Barani was shot to death by operatives inside a motel here somewhere in Cogon market area when he reportedly attempted to draw a gun during the arrest.
