ANOTHER proud moment, not only for the Baguio peeps but also for the whole Philippines, is the recent win of Pinopela in the International A Cappella Championships held last July 2, 2016 in Singapore.

The group was originally formed to compete in Ryan Cayabyab’s Akapela Open, which it won in 2014. Eight members of Pinopela were once part of the multi-awarded St. Louis University Glee Club and all come from Baguio City.

Even with an line up of 29 amazing groups, choirs and beatboxers this year, Baguio’s very own Pinopela emerged on top and were named : International Category Champion, Judges' Choice Award/Overall Champion, Pinopela member Anthony Castillo was named Most Impressive Singer among 300 singers and Zsaris Mendioro was Live Looping Champion.

Pinopela garnered an average score of 93 percent, which happens to be the highest score given in the history of the International A Capella Championships in Singapore.

The A Cappella Championships have become a staple in the A Cappella Society's annual calendar of events. Mesmerizing classic, jazz and pop tunes are rendered by aspiring A Cappella groups, Choirs and Beatboxers. The AcaChamps, as it is endearingly known as, is a program that aims to provide positive reinforcement for all participating groups and serves as an annual testing ground for local and new A Cappella groups to compete against one another in a friendly environment.

Over the last 18 years, the annual A Cappella competition has paved the way for singers to watch and learn from one another and as well as from experts.

Congratulations to Pinopela members Ingrid Payaket, Anthony Castillo, Timmy Go, Ryan Vincent Lamaroza, Zsaris Mendioro, Deo Balignasay Ramirez, Sheevani Brylle Sibayan, Rox Omilda and Charmaine Irish Suyu for once again being prestige and honor to our hometown and country!
